In late 2000 Martin Pursch and Mark Cole decided to hold a meeting to see if there was any interest in forming a fly fishing club. Interested persons began meeting at Martin Pursch’s Country Fly Fisher Shop in February of 2001. where approximately 10 people attended.
Martin and Mark laid out their plan for the club and it was then decided the club would be called “The Heart of the Hills Fly Fishers”. Martin and Mark acted as co-leaders for the group for the first year, holding their monthly meetings at the Country Fly Fisher Shop. In January 2002 The Heart of the Hills Fly Fishers became officially organized and elected its first officers. In 2005 the club elected to change the name of the club to “The Fredericksburg Fly Fishers”.
Since it’s inception, the club has actively worked to teach fly fishing to others in the community and the Texas Hill Country.
